Summary
Maitland spent eight years as a Chicago cop before he was drummed out on a bogus corruption charge. More recently, he has become a partner in an upscale North Shore antiques business. But he scratches his itch for action as a part-time bounty hunter, bringing bail jumpers back to Chicago for trial. This time he is on the trail of Thomas Hicks, an ex-con charged with murder. Maitland plays a hunch and heads to a small town in Kansas; just as he arrives in Hicksville, so does Nina Harrows, who is looking for her sister. The local cops--think Barney and Andy's evil counterparts--are suspicious of any outsiders, and their paranoia goes full bloom when the bounty hunter and grieving sister initiate independent inquiries that may lead both to the source of their corrupt little empire.
