- Summary
- "In this tribute to one of the great coaches in college football history, Lewis Bowling paints a compelling portrait of an exceptional motivator, strategist, and role model: Wallace Wade. Wade is the man credited by both Frank Thomas and Bear Bryant with establishing the tradition of outstanding football at Alabama - his Alabama teams won three national championships, and the Crimson Tide's victory over Washington in the 1926 Rose Bowl is widely considered to be the most important victory in the history of southern football. Wade is also responsible for bringing big-time college football to the state of North Carolina with his power house Duke teams of the 1930s and 1940s, highlighted by Rose Bowl appearances in 1939 and 1942.
- He served his second tour in the Army during World War II, advancing to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and later went on to become commissioner of the Southern Conference before "retiring" to raise cattle on his North Carolina farm."--Jacket.
