- Summary
- A history of the rescue network set up in Nice in 1943 by the Syrian-born Jew Moussa Abadi (code-name: Marcel) and his French-Jewish fiancée, Odette Rosenstock, with the help of the bishop of Nice, Paul Rémond. Focuses on the experiences of Abadi and Rosenstock, who had fled occupied Paris in 1940 and settled in Nice. Beginning in 1943, they picked up orphaned or abandoned Jewish children and placed them mainly in Catholic institutions. Abadi produced forged identity cards and baptismal certificates in an office allocated to him by Bishop Rémond. The network also cooperated with Protestant ministers and received financial aid from the OSE and the JDC. Between 1943-44, 527 Jewish children were rescued by them.
