Summary
In 11th century Troyes, France, Elvina, unusual granddaughter of renowned Jewish rabbi Solomon ben Isaac (Rashi), believes she is intended to marry Obadiah, schoolmaster and disciple of her grandfather. But Obadiah is instead required to marry Dulcia, a young orphan who has recently come to Troyes from Egypt. Elvina, at first jealous, soon finds an ally in Dulcia when they learn that Obadiah has been captured and is being held for ransom by a local baron.
