Summary
"The first Zeppelin raid on London took place on 31 May 1915 -- and with it came the birth of a new arena of warfare, the 'home front'. German airships successfully bombed London on nine separate occasions between May 1915 and October 1917, bringing terror of indiscriminate bombing to a shocked and horrified populace. Britain initially had little with which to counter this danger, but gradually developed weapons and tactics that, in turn, forced Germany to develop high-altitude Zeppelins to bypass these defences. This book tells the story of Germany's strategic Zeppelin offensive against London, its impact, both upon civilians and the course of the war, and how it came to be neutralized"--Page 4 of cover.
