'Mao: The Unknown Story' by Jung Chang and Jon Halliday was published in 2005 to great fanfare. This book demonstrates that their portrayal of Mao is selective and inaccurate, and that although Mao did have many faults and was responsible for some disastrous policies, a much more balanced picture is needed.
