- Summary
- Etienne Zack is an emerging painter trained in Vancouver and living in Montreal whose work explores the physical act of art making. Known for his extravagant palette, Zack's work is characterized by staged sculpture-like scenes along with references to historical paintings taken up in contemporary critical debates. Zack's inquiries often take as their subject the very process of art's production and exhibition and the entire range of physical and conceptual tools employed in its creation. While his paintings are marked by a mastery of rigorous sequencing - with repetition, multiplication and symmetry - an expressionist painterly style envelopes each work in an exuberant playfulness. Etienne Zack was the winner of the 2005 RBC Painting Competition.
