Vertigo", "Der rosarote Panther", "James Bond" - nur drei Beispiele von zahlreichen Filmen, deren Vorspanne sich in das kollektive Gedächtnis eingeprägt haben. Die aussergewöhnliche Herausforderung, Schrift, Bild und Ton zu verbinden und gleichzeitig in ein Thema einzuführen, ohne es bereits vorwegzunehmen, hat zur Entwicklung eines stilprägenden Genres geführt. Bis heute reicht die Bandbreite der Eröffnungssequenzen von rein typographischen Lösungen bis hin zu selbständigen Filmen mit in sich abgeschlossener Erzählung. Der Einstieg in den Film bestimmt dessen Wahrnehmung massgeblich mit. Doch nur wenige der Titeldesigner, wie Saul Bass, sind namentlich bekannt. Erstmals werden die innovativsten und ungewöhnlichsten dieses Genres vorgestellt - alles in allem ein seit langem überfälliges Buch.
