- The contributions in this volume deal with Sir James Hudson, the British ambassador to Turin from 1852 to 1863. Hudson was a leading figure of European diplomacy during Italian unification. A great admirer of Italian culture and a passionate collector of art, he was one of the most important figures among the art connoisseurs and dealers active in the post-unification period. These articles discuss his career, the role that he played during the formative years of the Kingdom of Italy, and his relationships with the great political and artistic figures of his time.
