Summary

"The exhibition 'Time Games: Contemporary Appropriations of the Past' presents contemporary Taiwanese artists who, since the 1990s, have created new works by appropriating old "classics", drawing on local historical and cultural contexts and their individual life experiences. Based on the subject matter of the appropriated works, the exhibition is divided into seven categories, harking back to the classification system of dynastic China, namely, Landscapes, Taoism and Buddhistm, Human Figures, Flower, Birds and Beasts, Literary Allusion, Calligraphy and Photographic Images. Featuring some 150 works by 23 participating artists, it examines the intentions of contemporary artists in appropriating these classic works, and the ways in which they have refashioned the past"--Page 3.
