Summary
Third and last volume of the trilogy "Between Friends" is dedicated to candomblé religion. The texts comprise excerpts from the works of Jorge Amado, color drawings by Carybé and photographs by Verger related to the belief in the Orixs deities in Bahia and the role played by some Maes de Santo and priestesses of Bahia in the last century. This African-based religion, strongly rooted in Bahia was a source of common interest between artist Carybé (ne: Hctor Julio Pride Bernabé, b. Argentina 1911), modernist writer Jorge Leal Amado de Faria (b. Brazil 1912-2001) and photographer Pierre Verger (Fatumbi, b. France 1902-1996). These three and musician Danilo Caymmi (b. Brazil 1948), were chosen and consecrated as Ministers of Xang, Il Ax Op Afonj, anointed by the Ialorix Me Senhora (Mother Dame). Two other volumes were "Carybé & Verger: Gente da Bahia" and "Carybé, Verger & Caymmi: Mar da Bahia". The series celebrated art and the extraordinary friendship between these three artists who choose Bahia as their inspiration and their home.
