Summary

Fine edition dedicated to the collection of religious colonial sculptures dedicated to crucified Christ from the holdings of the Museo de Arte Colonial of Morelia, Michoacán. The present volume is the outcome of the seminar "Seminario de Escultura" organized by CDIA, and coordinated by doctor María del Consuelo Maquívar, responsible for the project that included 11 researchers who for more than 2 years elaborated essays on the sculpture's techniques, materials, iconography and its diverse of meanings, highlighting two priority topics: the guild of colonial sculptors and their work and studies on the Passion of Christ from different points of view: historic, religious and iconographic The selected pieces comprising the present edition are considered outstanding, either due to the techniques and materials with which they were executed or their iconography. The book is illustrated with color photographs by Dolores Dahlhaus Holste, winner in 1996 of the Premio Nacional de Fotografía del Patrimonio Mexicano declarado como de la Humanidad por la UNESCO.
