- Summary
- Historically defined as 'Negrito' because they physically resemble small Africans, these forest peoples may have the most ancient ancestry in Asia. Edith Mirante decided she wanted to learn more about this grouping, who are scattered across Asia, usually treated as second-class peoples. From her work in Burma, the author knew that even the most downtrodden idigenous peoples could find strength in coalitions and power in international awareness. so she decided to travel amongst them and offer them assistance with her contacts, and her written and spoken words. This book is not intended as a scholarly volume of study of the Negrito peoples but rather, her factual but personal account of the steps she took to learn about the challenges these set-apart people face in the early 21st century.
