Description
lxviii, 458 pages, 3 leaves of plates : 3 color illustrations; 25 cm.
Summary
Written in the early 13th century, the Stricker's Karl der Grosse (Charlemagne) revised and updated the older Song of Roland by the cleric Konrad. The author transposed Charlemagne's Spanish campaign into the form of a courtly epic, creating a stylistically more sophisticated work, while also shifting the narrative aspect to focus more on the holy emperor. --
