- Summary
- Family history following the lives of the children of Consul Andreas Wiel -- four sisters (Alette, Calla, Petra, and Constancel) and one brother (Mads). The book focuses especially on how the sisters used their independence, their network of contacts and their fortunes to realize their own interests, thereby charting their own way into the modern socio-economic world. The sisters belonged to the first generation of wealthy women who knew they would inherit as much as their brothers.
