With his series of emotionally charged massacre paintings the painter Ashraf Geibatov touches a political aspect in art, which has meanwhile become very rare in contemporary works. A central theme is his home country of Azerbaijan with all the varied traditions and its lively folklore. However, "the tragic aspects of our recent history have become an integral part of my work," says the artist. "The colors of tragedies black and red, rugged lines and the contrast of light and dark tones are to reproduce a metaphysical picture of terror in the paintings. This is my contribution to getting justice for Khojaly."
