Summary
Eduard Johann Roschmann (Graz, Austrohungarian Empire 1908-Asuncion, Paraguay 1977) was the commander of the Nazi ghetto of Riga, Latvia, between 1943 and 1944, where he received the alias "Butcher of Riga." Around him were woven various conjectures about how he ascended to power. He escaped from Europe to South America in 1948. He lived in Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, where he died in August 1977. Who was Eduard Roschmann? Did he really kill thousands of Jews in Latvia? How did the commander of a ghetto die in a sad litter of the Hospital of Clinics of Asunción of Paraguay? What was his private life? What sexual obsession did he have? What was his life like before joining SS Nazis? How did he escape from the Detention Camp of Rimini, Italy, in 1947?
