- Summary
- Artist-photobook on the image of catastrophe. The images and texts that Claudia Salamanca brings together in this book present the time in which we live: the past of the catastrophe that seems to manifest every moment, since our present is captured by fear. Each moment is presented as the penultimate before the big event: terrorist attack, robbery, plane crash, bomb, thief, etc. Fear has captured time and also catastrophe in an image that anticipates horror. The image of the horror in our time is not that which documents the ruin, but the one that indicates that the catastrophe is to come. We live in a time when this past catastrophe seems to be manifesting at every moment. Our present is captured by fear. Each moment is presented as the penultimate before the big event: terrorist attack, robbery, plane crash, bomb, thief, etc. Fear has capped time and also catastrophe. The catastrophe is captured in an image that anticipates the horror. The image of the horror in our time is not that which documents the ruin, but the one that indicates that the catastrophe is to come. This seems impossible. It is not the remnant image or residual image that persists after the stimulus has ceased in the eye. On the contrary, it is an image that anticipates the look and with it at the time of the catastrophe.
