  • Proof-sheets first published in Notes and Queries, 1868-1870, as 4 and 12 page supplements; widely circulated for additions and corrections, which were incorporated in these "first proofs." The work was discontinued on account of a lack of funds, and except for a supplementary volume published in 1877, no further revisions were ever issued; the sections "Illustrated Bibles and liturgies," "Catalogues," "Periodicals" and "Societies" which it was proposed to issue separately at end of the alphabet, remain unpublished.
