  • "Not only the books in the Library, but all books printed and published, at the date of the issue of the Catalogue, that could be required to make the Library perfect." p. IV.
  • Proof-sheets first published in Notes and Queries, 1868-1870, as 4 and 12 page supplements; widely circulated for additions and corrections, which were incorporated in these "first proofs." The work was discontinued on account of a lack of funds, and except for a supplementary volume published in 1877, no further revisions were ever issued; the sections "Illustrated Bibles and liturgies," "Catalogues," "Periodicals" and "Societies" which it was proposed to issue separately at end of the alphabet, remain unpublished.
