- Summary
- SIRTF will be a 1-meter-class cryogenically cooled observatory used to conduct infrared astronomy from high Earth orbit. SIRTF will be launched on a Titan IV/Centaur launch vehicle into a four-day circular orbit at 100,000 km altitude. The mission lifetime will be five years. Three instruments using large-format infrared arrays will provide a thousand-fold increase in sensitivity over earlier missions.
