- Summary
- This study, conducted both before and after the 1965 election in Norway, focused on the electorate's political attitudes and perceptions of the Norwegian political parties, leaders, and campaign activities. The pre-election interviews probed the respondents' opinions on pressing tasks for the government, religious instruction in schools, social pensions, tax laws, the Norwegian language question, district development, and NATO membership. In addition, the respondents' perceptions of party positions on each of these issues were tapped. Information was also obtained on the respondents' political party affiliations, past voting patterns, and party preferences. The post-election interviews examined respondents' satisfaction with the election results, their use of mass media as a source of information on politics and the election, the extent to which respondents discussed politics with their family and friends, distribution of party campaign literature, visits by party workers in the respondents' communes, and the respondents' attention to and involvement in the election campaign. Demographic data cover age, sex, marital status, educational level, annual income, occupation, union affiliation, religious participation, and hobbies. The study also includes aggregate data on the respondent's commune and primary sampling unit, such as population statistics, vocational composition, boundary changes, use of the new Norwegian language, average income, and election information.
