- Summary
- Anna Mariani's "paintings and parapets" comprises 25 facades portrayed by the photographer in seven states of Northeast Brazil: Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe and Bahia. As curator and art critic Rodrigo Naves, selected more than 2000 photos of parapets that the photographer made in the region between 1976 and 1987. The photographs show Anna Mariani facades always at a front angle, without the presence of persons and without any view interference. These houses, simple but beautifully preserved, express a simple way of life that the Brazilian do best: joy. "The book "Pinturas e Platibandas" was originally publishd in 1987. This new edition of the Instituto Moreira Salles, revised and augumented by the artist herself allows the public conntact again with this important work. There are more than 200 images of popular houses of the Northeasthern Brazil produced between 1979 and 1995, carefully selected and edited for this book amongst more than two thousand images of the subject from her collection" (our translation)-- P. [1]. The first edition was published on the occasion of the first public exhibition of this collection at the 19th Biennial of Sao Paulo in 1987.
