- Summary
- Produced in pencil, watercolour, and oil pastel, the drawings narrate dark, mysterious stories about enigmatic characters who are caught up in all kinds of adventures. Among the series on display is the one that lends its name to the show, '1525', comprising 22 small-format drawings and two larger works nearly five metres wide (the largest the artist has ever created) on the city of Málaga. '1525' will transport visitors to a Málaga steeped in conspiracies, secrets, hidden poison formulas, and even haunted houses. Defined as a conceptual draughtsman, Van Eeden creates an evident symbiosis between painting and literature in his work. The artist has set himself the task of producing at least one drawing every day, which are always about an event that occurred before he was born, but this exhibition is the first time that he has ever situated a story in such a distant past: the early 16th century.
