Summary
Milan Knízák is an artist whose work and ideas are fascinating, disturbing and provocative in their uncompromising directness. Since the 1960s he has been one of the most important international artists whose work extends beyond the traditional artistic categories. He was named chairman of the eastern section of the international art movement Fluxus, and his ground-breaking work appears in the collections of prominent galleries such as MoMA in New York, the Tate Gallery in London, Kunsthalle Hamburg and MAK in Vienna. His Broken Music was included in a list of the most important compositions of the 20th century. Any kind of stagnation is alien to Milan Knízák's creativity, and this publication has therefore been conceived as an incomplete retrospective. As well as his key actions, it includes a selection of his manifestos and essays from the 1960s to the present day, together with paintings, objects, poems, short stories and examples of the notation for his rock band, Aktual.
