Summary
"This book is about the Jewish pioneer families of New Mexico. The term "pioneer families" has been defined in two main ways. Families were included whose presence in New Mexico predated the coming of the railroad to the territory in 1879. This is the classic definition of "pioneer family" since these families traveled at least part, if not all, of their journey from Missouri to New Mexico in wagons on the Santa Fe Trail. Once arrived, they spent their lives as merchants profiting so much from the trail's lucrative trade that they often invited other family members from distant places, mostly in Europe, to join them in New Mexico."--
