Nochtans gaat het om één van de meest diepgaande herstructureringen in de geschiedenis van de mensheid. Het is al enkele decennia het onderzoeksonderwerp van Eric Corijn.0Dit boek bespreekt de belangrijkste kenmerken van de stedelijke transitie, zowel in Vlaanderen, als op wereldvlak. Er is een groeiend spanningsveld tussen steden en landen, zeker wanneer landen een protectionistische, nationalistische koers varen. Steden reageren ook beter op de drie grote planetaire uitdagingen: onze omgang met de natuur, de sociale ongelijkheid en de multiculturele samenleving. Daarom is het ook nodig de stadsgewesten meer bevoegdheden te geven om een duurzame, sociale en culturele transitie mogelijk te maken. Een lokale deeleconomie is één van de instrumenten om tot een nieuwe postnationale samenleving te komen.
• The majority of people live in an urban environment today. This simple fact is not sufficiently taken into account, especially when it comes to drawing the necessary social and political conclusions. However, it is one of the most profound restructurings in the history of mankind. It has been Eric Corijn's research topic for several decades. This book discusses the most important characteristics of the urban transition, both in Flanders and at the world level. There is a growing tension between cities and countries, especially when countries are sailing a protectionist, nationalistic course. Cities also respond better to the three major planetary challenges: our interaction with nature, social inequality and the multicultural society. That is why it is also necessary to give the urban districts more powers to make a sustainable, social and cultural transition possible. A local sharing economy is one of the instruments to arrive at a new post-national society.
