Summary
The historical record of women's artistic production in Brazil, highlighting several artists who challenged conventions and aesthetic or social limits of their times in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, is the starting point of "Inventions of Modern Women, Beyond Anita and Tarsila, "the result of an extensive research that Paulo Herkenhoff has developed for decades, fueled by the continuous reflection on the work of several Brazilian women artists. The work selects several nuclei, which are distributed as a network or a constellation. Heterogeneous nuclei are established and give visibility to relevant issues and themes, which encompass both historical and factual data and attempt to evidence the subjectivity of the chosen artists. Inventions, as the title suggests, concern the creations of these women and also the construction of the image of women that was being opened and stoned through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In addition to their pioneering spirit, these characters have in common the confrontation of tensions and conflicts of several orders.
