- Summary
- This volume addresses one of the fundamental problems of cell biology, namely how proteins are sent to, and maintained at, their correct destinations. Individual chapters provide up-to-date information on protein targeting to different cell organelles; the nucleus, mitochondria, peroxisomes, endoplasmic reticulum, and the Golgi complex. Topics covered include the targeting sequences that act as molecular address tags, the receptors that recognize them, and the role of molecular chaperones. Other chapters focus on how proteins are targeted to organelles that communicate with one another during membrane trafficking in the secretory and endocytic pathways.
