- Summary
- The fight begins when the Pacific Lumber Company, operated by the Murphy family since 1904, with a strong tradition of both employee care and selective cutting of the last privately held redwood forest in America, is bought out by the huge Texas-based conglomerate Maxxam, Inc. (financed in part by Michael Milken). Eager to cash in on the thousands of acres of valuable lumber, the new owners sharply increase production. When members of the radical environmentalist group Earth First! get involved, strapping themselves to the giant redwoods to halt cutting, the battle becomes explosive. But for all the financial maneuvers, demonstrations, and lawsuits, it's a battle nobody wins.
