Jane Jacobs blev känd över världen för sin bok 'The Death and Life of Great American Cities'. Genom boken och sin aktivism på gatunivå i 1960-talets New York blev hon en centralfigur inom stadsplaneringsfrågor och hennes insatser har efter genombrottet ständigt tolkats och debatterats. Jane Jacobs became known around the world for her book 'The Death and Life of Great American Cities'. Through the book and her street-level activism in 1960s New York, she became a central figure in urban planning issues and her efforts have been constantly interpreted and debated since the breakthrough. its thinking to include the building of society in its broadest sense from economics and ecology to politics and social philosophy. Her books force the reader to reflect and broaden their field of vision. Jacobs is more relevant than ever in the uncertain world we face today. In 'Building society as a mystery', thirteen initiated writers address unique aspects of the burning questions she raises, what is it that basically makes a society sustainable? Together, the participants draw for the first time in Swedish an almost comprehensive picture of Jacob's activities from the 1930s to the 2000s, and place her work in contemporary contexts. The book is also an introduction and guide to Jacob's authorship that can inspire further reading and discovery
