Summary
Mit dem vorläufigen Frieden auf dem Kontinent seit 1802 dehnte der Londoner Künstler seine Motivsuche auf Zentraleuropa aus und durchstreifte, unentwegt seine Eindrücke skizzierend, besonders die Bergwelt der Schweiz. Im Atelier entwickelte er daraus die einzigartige Bildsprache seiner sublimen Landschaftsbilder. Anhand von Bildern, die von der Naturgewalt des Meeres ebenso wie von jener der Schweizer Berglandschaft berichten, befassen sich die Autoren mit der Veränderung in der Darstellung des 'Erhabenen', mit dem Motiv der Wetterphänomene, mit Turners Rolle als Vorläufer der Moderne und Cees Nooteboom denkt über Turner und das Reisen nach.
