- In 2014, it was one hundred years since the First World War broke out, leaving deep traces in society, business, politics and culture. To this day, "1914" stands for an event that can only be grasped in the complexity of its processes and consequences. This corresponds to the broad thematic spectrum of this volume. His contributions focus on the political causes and world-historical consequences of the First World War as well as the effects of the war on medicine, law, theology, the economy and the culture of the political. However, there is also a demand for changes in the role of the woman and the significance of the experience of war. The result is a cross-section of the perspectives and considerations that have become essential in the current discussion about the First World War.
