- Summary
- Rosebud Sioux tribal members are descendants of the Sicangu Oyate (Burnt Thighs Nation/people) of the Tetonwan division of the Great Sioux Nation. The Great Sioux Nation is also called the Lakota/Dakota/Nakota Nation, by language dialect. The Rosebud Sioux Tribe is home to the Sicangu tribe, called the Brule by the French. The Sicangu were further divided into the Heyata Wicasa (Upper Brule) and the Kul Wicasa Oyate (Lower Brule Nation). The people of the Lower Brule Reservation are today separated geographically from the Rosebud Sioux Reservation. Although there are family ties between these two reservations, this book will focus on the people of the Rosebud Sioux.
