Summary
"The strangers are rapping at our door carrying their own signs: Vedantists, springing from the Veda, the oldest of Hindu scriptures; Yoga, a persuasive philosophy of body, mind, and spirit; Baha'i, an intellectual world-conscious people who believe in world peace; Perfect Liberty, Soka Gakkai, and others from Japan; Sun Myung Moon and his belief in the Unified Family, from Korea; and the Jesus People, hippie followers of Christ. According to Marcus Bach, the day was bound to come when countries around the world to whom we had been sending missionaries would be sending missionaries to us. This is the day. Through travel, thorough research, and a deep personal quest, Dr. Back has searched for the meaning behind these faiths, and he interprets those meanings for the reader. He has found that while the strangers are unusual, their basic message is essentially the same as that of the indigenously American movements of several years ago--security, inner awareness, belief in the miraculous, promises of rewards, techniques to live by, and ideals to die for. Dr. Bach believes the more we know about other beliefs, the more honestly we will evaluate our own. The persistent knock of "The Strangers at the Door" is certainly one we dare not ignore." --cover page [4].
