- Summary
- Until the middle of the last century, the human heart was considered the centre of Aztec religious ideas. This body of thought was generally recognized scientifically. For about half a century, the importance of the heart has been discarded in favour of the liver. This publication examines the question of how this new organ interpretation could be justified and refutes it. Three other essays examine ancient Mexican documents. The genealogy of the Huitznahahuac calpulli was modified in the 18th century. The motives for this manipulation are explained. The Mapa de Tamasolco and the Codex Fischer are translated and critically examined with regard to the settlement history, cartography and local politics of 17th century Mexico.
