In an effort to deter her stepsons from benefiting out of dowry from her daughters, she hires the services of a mean witch to kill her step son, a sports celebrity upon whom the village pegs its hope on the oncoming inter-village sports festival; the fallen son's sports' mentor is also not spared by the witch. But it is blood for blood; the witch demands to be paid for his services with the life of her daughter. The resulting tragedy sends shock waves in the village, making even the elders who have gathered to chart the way forward fear to express their views under the light emitted by the firefly.
