Summary
Project report on the nature and extent of slums, based on a case study of slum and squatter human settlements in the karachi urban area in Pakistan - analyses aspects of slum life, rejects some of the explanations and theories of the poverty-slum syndrome, etc., and reveals that Asian slums are vehicles for the social integration of rural immigrants (rural migration), and that the wishes, desires and attitudes of the inhabitants must be taken into account if modernization is to succeed.
