  • Abstract: An official 1974 report for food and nutrition program administrators and policy makers, prepared for the US Senate's Select Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs, presents a compilation of comprehensive articles, judged to be useful to the Select Committee's immediate needs, selected during a detailed review of the published literature dealing with contemporary issued in food and nutrition. The 12 selected articles are grouped under 2 specific categories, viz.: international and US nutrition policies. The international nutritional policy articles (4 articles) include planning strategies, development of applied nutrition programs, the adverse effects of neglecting nutrition, and economic factors associated with nutritional change.
  • The 8 US nutritional policy articles include the development of nutrition services in comprehensive health care, a US nutritional policy and program, multidisciplinary personnel in nutritional health care services, the current status and future trends in food and nutrition policy, nutritional problems associated with changes in food consumption pattersn, the potential need for revision in US nutrition policy, a model for national nutrition policy, and the preliminary findings of the first US Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted in 1971-72. Summary data and illustrations are presented throughout the articles.
