Summary
Examines the psychotherapy of dying persons from the standpoint of a variety of medical perspectives. In general, the texts emphasize the importance of teamwork in dealing with terminal cases, especially the importance of each member of the team knowing what other team members have communicated to the patient and relatives. Addresses the failure of the current culture in comprehending the meaning of death, while advising physicians that to have chosen to become a physician is to acknowledge responsibility for the life-or-death decisions medical science has thrust upon them. A valuable addition to the growing body of texts aimed at helping physicians respond to the stresses of aiding the dying person and the bereaved.
