Summary
This report presents a summary of the 1981 Williamsburg Conference which developed recommendations for a comprehensive national strategy to provide safe and efficient transportation of hazardous materials and wastes in the 1980's. The conference covered regulation, training, emergency response, legal responsibilities and implications, technological needs and limitations, and risk assessment. The public interest was a prime concern in all the discussions. Vol. 1 describes TRB's role, gives an overview of the problem, and discusses in detail the findings and recommendations that were developed by the TRB Steering Committee. Vol. 2 covers resource papers, reports of rapporteurs and appendixes.
