Summary
Memoirs of a Jew born in 1928 in Paris to a family of Polish origin. Pp. 61-98 trace his experiences in the Shoah. His parents were arrested in the Vél d'hiv roundup in July 1942 and sent to Auschwitz, where they perished. Rajsfus and his sister, who were over 14 and had French citizenship, were not deported. They continued to live in their parents' apartment until summer 1944, when a benefactor brought them to an illegal shelter in the countryside. After the war Rajsfus returned to Paris. Pp. 161-205 deal with the behavior of the French police during the occupation and Rajsfus' relationship with the forces of law and order.
