- Summary
- Presents for the first time a full guide to the named and unnamed personalities who shared the earthly life of Jesus. The characters of the authors and the varying versions of the Gospels are analyzed in an interpretive way. There is an outstanding portrait of Jesus himself. And the whole human background to this historical drama is related in the light of recent Biblical and archaeological research, and with a conciliatory approach to the other faiths who acknowledge the person of Jesus, but without getting involved in scholarly dispute. Much attention is focused on the places where the major events in the earthly life of Jesus are said to have been enacted, together with places linked with the life and growth of the infant Christian Church. Many beautiful illustrations record the land and sites as they exist today as well as reproducing great works of art inspired by the Christian story and its meaning for mankind.
