- Summary
- In the 1830's the town of Auraria, located in north Georgia, grew up and reached its zenith. Herein is the colorful story of this exciting gold-mining town, the first in American history, antedating by almost two decades the mining booms in the West. But Auraria dwindled and faded until in the twentieth century it became one of the dead towns. In placing Auraria in its proper perspective the author goes beyond a mere local study and brings in historic developments which concerned the South and the nation as a whole --Page 2 of cover.
