Summary
Memoirs of a Polish Jew, born in Łódź in 1923 to an assimilated Jewish family. After the Nazi occupation, the family fled to Warsaw where they were interned in the ghetto in 1940. Describes life in the ghetto, including personal relations and cultural life. Piotrowski escaped from the ghetto in August 1942 and lived on the "Aryan side" with his brother. They were eventually betrayed and fled to Terespol, where they posed as non-Jews. They were arrested by the Nazis and first sent to a prison in Brest Litovsk; however, when their Jewish identity was revealed they were transferred to a labor camp near Stettin. The two brothers survived the war, but their parents perished.
