Summary

Abstract: Twelve authoritative overview papers discuss various aspects of the role of manlnutrition in determining human behavior and the effect of behavior on the eating habits and nutritional status of populations. Many of the papers review the effects of nutritional disorders (e.g.: caused by childhood malnutrition, food additives, vitamin deficiencies) on behavior and environmental factors that modify the physiological and behavioral effects of these disorders. Other papers review the ways in which variations in behavior lead to eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and obesity. Cultural factors that affect eating patterns and mother-child relationships that affect the nutritional status of children are also discussed. (wz).
