With it are photographic reproductions of the manuscript of the Mare liberum (34 leaves), chapter 27 of William Welwood's Abridgement of all sea-lawes, London, 1613 (p. 61-72), and Grotius' manuscript reply to Welwood, entitled Defensio capitis quinti Maris liberi oppugnati a Guilielmo Welwood, (20 leaves) The whole was to have formed part of a revised edition of Grotius' The freedom of the seas, published by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in 1916.
