- Summary
- There are many suitors in Padua who seek the hand of Bianca; however, Baptista, her father, refuses to let his younger daughter marry until her older sister, Katherine, is married. Katherine, the shrew, is so ill-tempered that it seems unlikely that she will ever find a husband, until Petruchio, a brash young man from Verona, arrives in Padua. Petruchio, determined to marry a rich woman, falsely informs Baptista that Katherine has agreed to marry him and begins the process of "taming" her. Meanwhile, Lucentio, who is in love with Bianca, enlists the help of his clever servant, Tranio, in a plot to win Bianca. Later, at a banquet, Petruchio wins a bet with two other men on a test of their wives' obedience
