- this analytic listing covers 501 novels set in New Mexico, Arizona, and West Texas. Each of the books in the listing is classified as to temporal and geographic setting, genre, and theme. A few reprint editions of books first published before 1960 are included. Although not all works of fiction by each author are found in this bibliography, the reader can use it to obtain the names of many of the region's fiction writers. In addition, the author includes a series of tables that make it easy for a user to trace novels by time period, setting, genre, or theme. For example, a reader can easily use the tables to produce a list of mystery novels set in twentieth-century Arizona. Particularly valuable are the listings of works of popular fiction--westerns, science fiction, and detective novels--which are often hard to trace, especially when the authors use pseudonyms. This bibliography will be useful for book collectors and librarians all over the world who are interested in rounding out their holdings in fiction of the contemporary Southwest.
