- Summary
- A study of the Viennese psychiatric clinic Am Steinhof during the Nazi period. Pp. 44-47 and 122-129 relate to the ca. 400 Jewish patients hospitalized there, who, as members of an inferior race, were systematically isolated and neglected. Later, in compliance with the euthanasia program, the Jews were deported and gassed as a group; their racial or religious affiliation served as the only criteria for selection. Claims that the annihilation of Jewish patients as a group shows that the euthanasia program was not only an experimental phase but also an ideological preliminary stage of the Holocaust.
