- Summary
- Vol. 1 includes a short survey of Jewish history, the sources and development of antisemitism, and Jewish settlement in Germany. Describes the history of Jews in the Duisburg (Ruhr) region since the 12th century. Even before the Black Death (1350), local Jews were accused of causing plague and burnt at the stake. Gives details of the few Jews who were granted special permission to settle in the town of Duisburg between 1501-1793. The community began to flourish in the 19th century and numbered almost 1,000 in 1904. From 1930 on they suffered from antisemitic attacks. also describes communal life up to 1933. Vol. 2 covers Jewish life during the Nazi period and gives details of persecution and deportations, including lists of local Jews and their fate.
